Lots of Heart-Shaped Fun

Do you ever feel like you go overboard on holidays? Anyone...? No??? Hmmm.  Must just be me. :)

I wasn't very prepared with the heart-shaped ideas this year for Valentine's Day, but Pinterest helped me whip together some fun, last minute ideas that made me appear like the on-top-of-it mom that I once was and long to be again someday.
We had exactly 13 Candy Cane Kisses leftover from Christmas...just enough for a fun morning activity with Jason and a sugar-filled snack for the kids.
Without any structure today, the kids were off the wall crazy a little rowdy, so I threw together a quick counting activity. Clearly, "colors" needs to be on Ryan's spelling list next week!
We only had a few hotdogs leftover from Mike's Super Bowl cookout while I was in Vegas, but I found an idea for a fun addition to our Valentine lunch.
...and for those who were still hungry, I made heart-shaped sandwiches.
I texted all of my neighbors begging for marbles when I remembered this idea for how to make heart-shaped muffins.
The muffins {that I didn't accidentally over-fill} looked like lovely little beer bread hearts to go along with our red pasta dinner.
We ended our day with a chocolate fondue dessert...sort of a tradition in our house. Strawberries, bananas, pretzels, almonds, Rice Krispie Treats and heart shaped cookies. (those tulips were from my Valentine)
A chocolatey time was had by all
Although I gave up sugar for Lent, I allowed myself a cheat and dipped some fruit...because chocolate covered bananas and strawberries are the BEST!!!
Someone had a little too much fun with unrestricted access to a bowl of melted chocolate.
An hour before Mike came home from work, I realized that the big kids were outside playing and Jason was occupied with the iPad. I was tempted to do a quick workout video, but changed my mind at the last minute. I scattered red paper hearts all over the kitchen, set the table with fancy glasses and fun drinks for everyone, then I threw on a nice outfit, some make up and my uncomfortable, adorable, hooker heels to greet Mike at the door. This whole day felt thrown together, while it appeared planned and calculated.  I love it when it works out like that!

I'm so glad for the pictures, I couldn't for the life of me get what the kids meant by heart-shaped hotdogs... and I thought you put the marbles IN the batter! Do you think paper muffin cups would make a more distinct heart? And do you think it really matters how perfect they are when you have those perfect shoes on your perfect legs to greet your husband? Me neither.

Love that you love so well, Katie!

Hugs,
Mom
